Constellation of the South

In the history of the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, there have been a number of orders and medals bearing the name "Constellation of the South" [Constellation du Sud].

The history begins with the creation of the Royal Society of the Constellation of the South [Société Royale de la Constellation du Sud] by King Orelie-Antoine I in 1869 at Perquenco, Araucania.

King Achille I reorganized the Royal Society of the Constellation of the South by dividing it into two distinct groups: 1) The Order of those Decorated with the Constellation of the South [La Société des Décorés de la Constellation du Sud], and 2) The Society of Recipients of the Medal of the Constellation of the South [La Société des Médaillés de la Constellation du Sud].

King Antoine II collapsed the two groups created by his predecessor into the single Order of the South Cross [Ordre de la Croix Stellaire du Sud].

During the reigns of Queen Laure-Thérèse and King Antoine III, the name was again changed, this time to the Royal Order of the Southern Constellation [Real Orden de la Constelacion del Sud].

During the time of Prince Philippe, this award was renamed the Decoration of the Legion of the Recipients of the Medal of the Constellation of the South [Décoration de la Légion des Médaillés de la Constellation du Sud].

Prince Frédéric is the Grand Master of the Legion of the Constellation of the South.  Baron Raoul de Lavalette is its Chancellor.
