Jacques Alexandre Antoine Bernard was born in Paris to Laura-Therese and Louis Marie Bernard on April 11, 1880. Antoine III was married three times: in 1907 to Andree Emilie Coquelin, in 1915 to Suzanne Anna Eugenie Legat and in 1931 to Ingrid Moller.
During the 1940s, Jacques Bernard worked as the editor of Mercure de France, an important literary journal. He abdicated in favor of Philippe Boiry on May 12, 1951. He died in Paris on October 26, 1952.
